I think we've already had a thread pretaining to this subject. I my own opinion "classes" for learning how to build would be beneficial for a few of us (including me) I just have a feeling that people would have a hard time trying to attend these so called "classes" as people have differing time zones that range around the world. I think that this would work closely or just as well if we had uploaded theses classes to YouTube and posted on the forums. These are just my thoughts on the possible implications of such classes happening.
I can not confirm or deny this will or will not happen... it could be in many formats if it does ever happen... but first thing is first.. thats get a solid community willing to learn, teach and share their knowledge with each other and one that doesn't judge (harshly and in a rude manner) when people of new or lesser talent than others join and want to improve.
Making classes would be a great idea but if you look the Mithrintia Academy it was a great idea but it failed! I personaly would like to have them but for the staff team it sure would be hard.
I think that I could use help in some areas, but not things like detail, interior, ect. Nature and Inspiration is what I need help with :/
On Mith, I did everything I could to spend a large majority of my time on small plots and just helping people learn to build and used all of my small plots for guests/members to build together with friends and just learn with friends and myself. I think classes work like communism (as the saying goes, "Works great on paper but not in practice"). I think a strong hospitable staff and community that is willing to help and nurture newer builders is much more powerful in the long run. I recently spent some time on another server and the admin/staff personally helped me out quite a bit and even invited me to join the Team Speak and into a private channel with them (reminded me of an old experience at a church). I have a pretty firm understanding of redstone but I have to admit, it really made me have a desire to participate in the community and learn more about redstone. Building on a server should be about fun, having an opportunity to meet like-minded players, learning and making new friends. Great concept but wouldn't it be nicer to just have friends who want to learn with you (like in school)? I can personally admit that after 6 years of college and 13 years of public school, I learned more outside of classes than I EVER learned in the classroom. TLDR (Too long didn't read) version : I think the staff and community willing to build up and help everyone is much more valuable than classes could ever be because then nobody has to worry about schedule conflicts.
i agree with this :D i think it be cool too if mith or athion or someone done vids showing vids on how to build for people who also wanna build and want to watch something or whatever but love the idea string :3 lel
There are more ways to spread the classes to people of all ages and interests If people were to upload these to a majority of channels across YouTube of all sizes with their own special twist on it, then time wouldn't be a conflict and people could interact and ask what will be next, and can ask for special parts of the video showing something several people sounded like they needed help on. You being a YouTuber String, you know how good it feels to please your audience when you give them content they enjoy watching, and how good it feels to know that you have a tool that people are being helped by. Just thought I'd drop another line on this topic, MagmaticMC
I, personally, decided to join Athion because of the collaboration and learning atmosphere that Mithrintia established. I have always valued learning and sharing techniques together as long as the atmosphere is inviting and not putting down of those of lesser experience and skill. Videos can teach you all you need to know as far as a "class" goes, but those take time and energy to create. That being said, having the same class over and over again could also be draining over time and people get unmotivated to continue teaching and attending, which makes me lean more towards the video option personally. That being said, one cannot replace the other. If you only watch videos, you still need other builders around you who are experienced and can help you improve (thus why you are most likely on Athion in the first place). Yet, if you only attend classes, you don't get the useful diagrams and visuals you can get by being outside of Minecraft. Those are my thoughts. I'm only a Jr. Mod so I can't officially vouch for anything but I sure hope we figure out something!
I think that if people were really dedicated to this server, if they really wanted to play, then they could find a way.
