I was on this other server and they had this really amazing feature where you could chat server wide and when new players would join the server, it would announce in bold flashy font that there was a new player. I thought this was an amazing feature because I noticed that it was promoting more of a togetherness feeling amongst the players and staff because the higher ranks were able to be connected to all of the players. The new player message promoted the other players to "welcome" the new players because it worked like a chain reaction. One person would simply be polite and say, "Welcome (new player name)" and then others would follow suit. I'm not sure how simple it would be to implement this feature but I thought it was really warming to first join a server and not feel excluded or alone.
I support this. I agree with wanting to be welcomed into a new server by the players'. And the boring automated response of the server Welcome {player_name} to the server! does get old after a while. +1
Yeah I saw that once (happened to me) and that is really heart warming :3 It needs to be implemented !
Would be nice to have commands to switch "chat channels" MMO's have this a lot for example. (Firefall a game I play uses /l /s /p (no not Lil' Space Program :p) to switch between local, squad and global chat. You still receive global chat, but your outgoing messages are altered via those commands)
I like it but I doubt people would strive to achieve that intended purpose. The truth is people will be saying "welcome" as a common courtesy, not because they actually care to get to know all the new players. Also that's quite a bit of new players and it could flood the chat just a bit haha. Anyway good idea but im a bit unsure about it, just my stance on that.
