I try to be different and think of some things that haven't been done before, probably shouldn't do that yet because I'm not that good ><. I Still like to come up with my own ideas for builds before I build them. Do you guys imagine up your own builds from scratch or do you go off some other build you saw or from real life?

I... I don't really know how to explain it, this build with large amounts of details like appears in my mind.. and I try to build it and keep imagining it as I expand the build.

No, I don't go off anything in real life, Irl buildings are boring xD

My most recent two completed builds were both IRL buildings :P and me current cathedral is inspired by a real cathedral :)

Lots of inspiration can be found in real builds :D

I personally find copying from IRL buildings limits me, I spend more time trying to make it look like the building then actually focusing on what i'm building if that makes sense.

I normally have a rough idea of what I need to build before I start, such as a commissions the client tells you what they'd like and larger projects you've already planned things out and have a general understanding. What I normally do with spontaneous building is try to re-create something I saw someone else build, on say PMC or twitter, then add my own twist to it. Copying people block for block is a bad thing, copying peoples styles, patterns, layouts etc is how you actually become a better builder.

Never over think your build, take it wall by wall and see how it turns out, and don't be afraid to change your mind. No one ever gets anything right first time. :P

I try to do the same things as some of you by looking at other people designs, shapes and builds not to copy it block for block but to make my build a little bit better. Also I tend find an image in my head that I want to build then while building it I think of something that would be better in certain places and it keeps changing as I build I don't know if that's a bad thing or good. I also want to try something cool I though of building in my build and try to do it, but it fails miserably because it looked way better in my head and it usually is really complicated to try to build. As far as going off IRL buildings I've never really tried that and maybe I should.

I think it's perfectly normal that your ideas change while you build, your first idea is almost never your best idea. As far as something not turning out as good as you imagined it, I think that's partially caused by the somewhat limiting form of blocks. But over time you learn to think in blocks when planning a build. Lastly I think that looking at how real buildings are build can really help a builder push believability in a build.

How do I imagine up a build? Well I just think of some irl build that is real that exsists in this 21st century world then I build, but with alittle more touch of my custom style to it. like a Government tax building or a Stadium or a house. And that would be how I imagine up my builds

Most of the time I go around the TG's and look for inspiration, such as a certain style or something. PMC also helps me for some reason. If I need ideas on roofs or palace shapes, I would just google IRL or drawn buildings for help.

I've done that before, go around and just look at the other builds really does help. I like the different things people make and the different way they do them, I'm usually set about how I do things and I really want to do new and different things out of my area to improve myself. PMC I should probaly also check there for ideas too that would help me a ton. I would draw if I could draw but it would be worse then me building and testing it in minecraft.

Drawing is actually a good idea to conceptualize a build aswell imo. Even if you can't draw at all. I'm moderately good at drawing, but sketching and concepting is one of my less trained skills. It can really be handy to get a feel for the balance and proportions in your build.

If I am making a map or something for a server, or want a layout a certain way, I will always draw it out so I know where things will go and so that it is organized.

Thanks even if I can't draw well I'll try it the next build I do. Probably help out a lot with positioning and ideas you can write down before starting. I always change something when I start building and then it all gets changed because I don't make up my mind XD

Lol I just place blocks. I never really plan or think. I place blocks step back look at what I've made then decide whether to change, discard keep or continue. It's the same with my drawings. I never really know what I'm making or in the end even know what I've made. Leave others decide :P
